About Us

Florie&Alma’s journey began in May 2020, in a time where everyone’s world had been turned upside down and the nation were amidst a national lockdown following the Coronavirus outbreak. Unsure of what the future had in store, I turned to my sewing machine, where I found happiness in playing with fabric from my mums airing cupboard (sorry mum!). In finding my ‘happy place’, I began piecing together garments for myself and my friends. The content of mums airing cupboard eventually ran out, which takes us to where we are today and the birth of my small independent biz, Florie&Alma.

Florie&Alma was named after my Grandma and her sister, whom worked together as seamstresses making shirts for Van Heusen. In being so blessed to have two remarkably inspirational women in my life, who passed their precious knowledge and skills down to me, made naming the brand after them feel only natural and allows me to continue to hold them both so very close to my heart.

As I am a one woman show, a significant amount of time, energy and love has been put into where Florie&Alma is today. In working tirelessly on refining the designs you see before you, I hope to have created garments that my lovely customers will love and cherish for many years to come. Offering a variety of designs means that we have tried to cater for all needs, shapes and sizes, with ALL the garments designed to be seasonless with appropriate layering in the cooler months.

OUR ETHOS:

Changing the way we shop has never been more important than now. The textile industry shockingly mounts to the second largest pollution source in the world. Over 300,000 tonnes of textiles are discarded In just ONE YEAR in the UK alone, leading to the release of greenhouse gas emissions and toxins which seep into our soil and water.

At Florie&Alma we aim to be cautious of our environmental footprint, which means that we don’t stop at where our garments may eventually end up. The farming process of textile productions poses itself as another vast environmental issue in our world today. In using GOTS certified textile, the environmental footprint is drastically reduced by using natural ecological processes and the local environment to grow and harvest the crop. This in turn saves a total of 218 billion litres of water and 288.7 million kilowatts of energy per farmer per year, whilst ensuring the fair treatment and work conditions for both animals and workers.

So, this is our promise to you. When you buy from Florie&Alma, you can be confident in knowing you’re doing your bit to reduce your environmental footprint. Whilst buying from a brand who uses ethically sourced fabric, you are also buying from a small independent business, where garments are made to order instead of mass produced. Your garment is unique to you and built to last you a lifetime.
